JPMorgan deploys its dollar deposit token on Ethereum

JPMorgan has deployed JPM Coin, its token representing dollar deposits at the bank, on Ethereum mainnet for institutional clients, adding a public network alongside Base for moving wholesale money. The bank said the token was technically deployed on Monday, Oct. 19, according to CoinDesk’s report on the Ethereum launch.

The deployment extends JPMorgan’s onchain offering beyond Base, the Ethereum layer 2 network built by Coinbase. It gives eligible clients another network on which to use a bank deposit token, while connecting JPMorgan’s dollar deposits to Ethereum’s public blockchain environment.

What does the Ethereum deployment let clients do?

Institutional clients can use JPM Coin on Ethereum, according to JPMorgan’s statement to CoinDesk. The token represents dollar deposits held at the bank; it is not described in the reporting as a claim on a pool of third-party reserves. The expansion is intended to give clients more choice in moving wholesale money across blockchain networks.

JPMorgan’s Emma Landriault, head of Kinexys Labs, said in the statement that issuing the token first on Base and then on Ethereum provides “multi-chain optionality.” That describes availability across networks; the reports do not say the token itself moves between Base and Ethereum through a bridge, nor do they describe a cross-chain transfer mechanism.

The available reports do not identify the Ethereum contract address, token standard, transfer restrictions encoded in the contract or transaction workflow. They establish deployment and institutional availability, but not how JPMorgan mints, burns, authorizes or settles individual token transfers onchain. Those details matter for clients evaluating custody, integration and transaction finality.

Why add Ethereum after launching on Base?

JPMorgan chose Ethereum because it offers more liquidity than rival networks and is already used by institutional clients, Landriault told Bloomberg, as reported by CoinDesk. The move therefore places the deposit token on a network where financial firms and crypto companies may already conduct blockchain activity.

JPM Coin had been live on Base since November 2025, according to Ledger Insights’ report on the Ethereum deployment. The bank is expanding to another network, rather than announcing the replacement of its Base deployment. Ledger Insights also reports that JPM Coin is planned for the Canton Network, but that is a separate future expansion, not part of Monday’s Ethereum launch.

What does the launch leave unspecified?

The reports identify JPM Coin as a dollar deposit token for institutional clients, but do not provide a public contract address or technical deployment specification. They also do not state whether token transfers are permissioned at the smart-contract level, which addresses can hold the token, or how deposits and tokens are reconciled. The launch announcement should not be read as evidence that any Ethereum address can acquire or transfer JPM Coin.

JPMorgan’s Kinexys network processes more than $7 billion in transactions daily, CoinDesk reported. That figure concerns Kinexys activity overall; it is not a measure of JPM Coin transactions on Ethereum. The bank’s announcement marks a new public-chain venue for the token, while the scale of its use there remains unreported.
