JPMorgan deploys its dollar deposit token on Ethereum
JPMorgan has deployed its JPM Coin deposit token on Ethereum for approved institutions, adding a public mainnet venue for around-the-clock dollar transfers.

JPMorgan has deployed JPM Coin, its token representing US dollar deposits at the bank, on Ethereum for institutional clients, extending round-the-clock transfers from Base to Ethereum mainnet. The bank said the Ethereum expansion was live on Oct. 19, 2026; Cointelegraph reported that the token remains limited to approved institutional participants even though it runs on a public network.
What does the Ethereum deployment let clients do?
JPM Coin lets eligible clients send and receive funds within seconds, 24 hours a day, according to Bloomberg’s report on JPMorgan’s Ethereum launch. The token represents dollar deposits held at JPMorgan: the onchain asset is the transfer mechanism, while the underlying value is a deposit at the bank.
That makes the deployment a new venue for moving bank money onchain, rather than a change to the deposit’s denomination. JPMorgan’s announcement, as reported by Cointelegraph, identifies crypto firms’ blockchain payments and financial institutions’ trade settlement and collateral posting as possible uses. The bank has not disclosed how many clients will use the Ethereum deployment or how much JPM Coin has been issued there.
How does Ethereum change JPM Coin’s access?
Ethereum is a public network, but JPM Coin is not open to arbitrary holders: Cointelegraph reported that access remains restricted to approved institutional participants. The bank’s token therefore combines public-chain transaction infrastructure with permissioned participation. A public ledger does not by itself make the token available to anyone who can create an Ethereum wallet.
JPMorgan said it chose Ethereum for its liquidity and existing use among clients, according to Cointelegraph. For institutions already operating on Ethereum, the deployment places a bank deposit token on the same network where they may conduct other digital-asset activity. JPMorgan has not published technical details in the cited reports about the Ethereum contract, token standard, or transaction controls, so the deployment’s exact onchain implementation cannot be established from them.
Does the Ethereum launch replace Base?
No replacement was announced: JPM Coin first launched on Base in November 2025, and the Ethereum deployment extends its network availability. Base is an Ethereum layer-2 network; Ethereum mainnet is the layer-1 network. The move adds a distinct chain for the token’s institutional use.
The reports do not establish that a token on Base can be transferred directly to Ethereum, or that the two deployments share a contract or supply. Supporting the same deposit token on two networks does not, on its own, confirm a bridge, cross-chain messaging system, or shared settlement mechanism. JPMorgan has not described those mechanics in the reports.
The confirmed change is narrower: approved institutions can now use JPM Coin on Ethereum as well as Base, with transfers designed to operate around the clock and settle within seconds. The bank has named liquidity and client activity as reasons for adding Ethereum; volume, adoption and the specific settlement path remain undisclosed.
